• Ride a horse at the McLendon Hills Equestrian Center, a 25-acre, full-service, state-of-the-art equine facility only 20 minutes from Pinehurst Resort. There are three outdoor rings, including a dressage riding area, lighted riding area, and hilltop ring with show-quality jumps; a riding arena; rider's lounge; and almost nine miles of bridle trails beginning and ending at the Center, traversing woods, fields, hills, and streams. The Center offers riding lessons, with advance reservations.
• Stroll around the 27-acre Sandhills Horticultural Gardens on the campus of Sandhills Community College. The gardens are usually open to the public daily.
