- The famous Moana Surfrider Banyan Tree was planted at the resort in 1904 by Jared Smith, the director of Department of Agriculture Experiment Station. over a century ago. The tree—named Deva—is a 75-foot-high natural wonder that stretches 150-feet across. She's also a millennium landmark tree, the designation reserved for the one tree in each state that holds important national and local historic value.
- The historic courtyard of the Moana Surfrider was also the setting of the Hawaii Calls live radio broadcast that was recorded from 1935 to 1975.
