Hacienda Xcanatún features a variety of supernatural occurrences within property limits that make for intriguing stories for its visitors. The first story occurred within the Ana Suite, where guests have said that a spirit resides. As the tale goes, a Chicago writer visited the hotel for one week and wrote throughout his time at the hotel, during which he repeatedly felt someone peering over his shoulder as he typed away.

Another ancient tale speaking of the Xtabay tells the story of a spirit who resides beneath the Ceiba trees, revered to the Mayan people. The Xtabay is said to lure men from their homes, and this ancient spirit has been recounted as visiting the hotel's 200-year-old Ceiba tree within the garden space.
