Hacienda La Magdalena was constructed amid the intellectual and philosophical movement that dominated Europe in the 18th century.

Hacienda La Magdalena dates back to the late 17th century. It has changed hands many times over the years, including one Don Jose Caserta in 1848. He subsequently sold it to Don Manuel Jesus de Olazagarre eight years later, who then sold a part to a “Mr. Escandon.” Escandon would go on to transform the hacienda into a factory called “La Escoba,” which created yarns and fabrics for export. Around the same time, the tillage lands were sold to Don Ramón Chávez who leased the land for agricultural production. Today, the current owner is Dr. Roberto Guillermo Chávez Ruíz Velazco, a descendant who has kept the memories of his ancestors alive by maintaining the traditions and essences of their culture and heritage.

In celebrating its past, the hotel’s guestrooms and suites are named after the ladies and gentlemen who once resided at the hacienda. One example is the “Jorge,” which is a room that has been named after an uncle who passed away in 1957. Another historically inspired room is “Jovita,” which is named after a paternal grandmother of the owner who lived here at the start of the early 20th century. These details give the hotel both a family ambience and a historic character.

Two former sites, named Los Verdes and Los Sauces, are were once the hacienda’s washing areas and orchards. These areas are now home to the gardens on which residents celebrate social events and family reunions. The hacienda’s original 17th-century chapel still resides in this area, as well. These new facilities and gardens with fountains, ponds, willows, and fruit trees are where birds and colorful fish live in harmony with nature.
