Downtown Seattle, Washington's Fairmont Olympic Hotel opened in 1924 and has been wowing guests ever since. This recently renovated hotel has the highest in luxury standards and represents all the sophistication of a world class stay, and has also been given the distinction of being a green, sustainable property.
Originally known as The Olympic Hotel, the building is located on the grounds of what was once the first campus of the University of Washington. An opening night banquet was hosted on December 6, 1924, inviting more than 2,000 Seattle residents and their guests. Hundreds more lined the streets to view the hotel and the lavish affair. The event became a major part of Seattle’s, and subsequently the West Coast’s, history and set the standard for such affairs. Prior to that night, large luxurious festivities were only held in large cities on the East Coast of the United States. Since its opening night, the Fairmont Olympic has maintained that same degree of elegance, opulence, and civic pride. Locals can attest to the lifelong memories made from senior proms, debutante balls, engagement parties, and wedding receptions held at this historic hotel. All these years later, it is still the center of social life in Seattle.
The Fairmont Olympic Hotel was fully restored in the 1980s. In 2003, it was acquired by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, assuming the name it has now, Fairmont Olympic Hotel, and completed renovations in 2005. Fairmont published a book titled, “The Olympic: The Story of Seattle’s Landmark Hotel”, to mark the establishing event. Most recently, a $25 million guestroom renovation was finalized in July 2016. Containing 450 guestrooms, including 216 suites, it has retained its original Italian renaissance architectural design.
The Fairmont Olympic's many amenities only add to its charm. Each guestroom features luxury toiletries by Le Labo, luxurious bathrobes, down comforters, blackout curtains, a minibar, and premium television channels. Room service is available 24 hours, and in-room childcare is convenient for traveling families. Guests are able to request mini refrigerators, hypo-allergenic bedding, and extra beds if necessary. The 3,000 square foot spa, Penelope & The Beauty Bar, offers full body spa treatments like scrubs, massages, and wraps, as well as hair and makeup services. Four eateries are on-site and cater to any palate, whether a guest is seeking fresh local seafood, an English-style afternoon tea, handmade craft cocktails, or a simple authentic Seattle espresso. There are even retail establishments available, from a UPS to a luxury jewelers.
Locally, the Fairmont Olympic Hotel is in close proximity to the hottest spots in the city. This pet-friendly hotel is legendary for all it has to offer on its premises, but a venture just outside finds the bustle of an exciting, fast-paced city life. Visitors can ski and snowboard in the northwest mountains, take in a professional football or baseball game, or watch the fish throwers at Pike Place Fish Company. The Pacific Northwest is ripe for whale watching, hiking, biking, seaplane tours, and boating. Others may choose to indulge in the local art scene, with a visit to the Museum of History and Industry, the Experience Music Project, or the Museum of Flight. After a day out on the sea, the mountain, or in a museum, visitors can satiate their appetites with a visit to several fine dining establishments or more casual eateries.
