Located in Arona, Italy, this monumental statue was built between 1614 and 1698 to honor Saint Charles Borromeo, a cardinal and archbishop of Milan canonized in 1610. Designed by Giovanni Battista Crespi, the statue is made of hammered copper plates supported by an iron frame and stands on a granite pedestal. This innovative construction method influenced later large-scale statues. Visitors can enter the statue and climb up to the head, where they can look out through the eyes and ears of the statue.
