  • Discover the Florentine gold ceilings with decoratively painted box beams throughout The St. Regis Washington, D.C.’s historic lobby and public spaces. The ornate designs were modeled from the Davangati Palace in Florence, Italy. The Italian Renaissance Revival style is best displayed in the historic hotel lobby and the splendid Astor Ballroom. The original interior design firm was A.E. Wardman and Company. After its opening in 1926, the luxurious establishment was said to impress those who desired “the best in good living.”

  • Discover the deep connection that The St. Regis Washington, D.C. has made to the city of Washington, D.C. throughout its long history. Some of the guestroom interiors of the hotel were furnished by the DeMoll furniture store at 12th and G streets N.W., just six blocks away. The original layout offered a beauty salon and barber shop - and President Reagan was known to take his haircuts there. Secretary of State Cordell Hull took up residence at the hotel during World War II, in part for its proximity to the White House. The hotel served as makeshift offices and a social venue during the Truman administration during White House renovations.

  • Marvel at the limestone exterior of The St. Regis Washington, D.C. The hotel was built in the Beaux Arts and Italian Renaissance style and designed by architect Mihran Mesrobian. Mesrobian was educated in Turkey before emigrating to the United States in 1921 and in 1926 he received a National Award for Excellence from the American Institute of Architects’ local chapter for his design. The distinct design of the corner hotel, such as the frieze and window pediments, influenced the growing federal and commercial areas around the White House.
