The original property opened in 1131. A member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2016.
The San Clemente Palace Kempinski is set on a private island known as San Clemente in the heart of the Venetian Lagoon. The original structure of the hotel actually dates to the 12th century, when Pietro Gattilesso funded the construction of a monastery. This construction project laid the foundation for what would eventually become the current hotel. Most of the buildings located on the grounds were constructed later on during the 19th and 20th centuries. All of these terrific historic structures were eventually renovated in 2003 into a luxurious boutique hotel. Several years later in 2016, the hotel reopened as the San Clemente Palace Kempinski. The San Clemente Palace Kempinski is located only 10 minutes away from St. Mark’s Square, and its wealth of interesting cultural attractions. Distinguished landmarks, such as the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica, reside at this renowned location. Guests can easily access these grand destinations by way of the hotel’s complimentary shuttle boat. The San Clemente Palace Kempinski is also surrounded by a number of inner courtyards and ancient buildings that reflect Venice’s storied past. As such, both the hotel and its surrounding neighborhood are a tranquil oasis hidden away from the hustle and bustle of modern city life.
