The iconic Skirvin Hilton in Oklahoma City was built in 1911 and is now listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. It’s become famous over the years as being haunted, but it’s also one of the best places to stay in Oklahoma (despite the ghost rumors). It boasts sophistication and charm and is home to modern amenities and opulence that has wowed celebrities, politicians, and dignitaries throughout its history.
The historic Skirvin Hotel underwent a $50 million dollar renovation in 2007 and reopened as The Skirvin Hilton Oklahoma City Hotel. The hotel opened in 1911 with two wings and 225 accommodations. It was one of the most gorgeous buildings in all of Oklahoma City with its Art Deco architecture. The inside was decorated in English Gothic detail and was an opulent place to stay in town.
Today, it's been restored to its glory days, and it's even better with all the modern amenities that were added. It's quite impressive. Guests marvel at the historic and stunning accommodations at this famous hotel.
Many famous people have stepped through the doors of these historic elevators in the hotel. Several U.S. Presidents and even Elvis Presley have stayed the night here.
When you visit, be sure and check out the Roman god of wine and intoxication that overlooks the lobby. The hotel originally opened during Prohibition times, but the hotel owner had a love for adult beverages and quite a sense of humor so he installed it for all to see when they walked in the front doors.
