- Experience a hike in the hot, dry desert that leads into a narrow canyon and to the hidden wonder of a waterfall oasis on Hellhole Canyon Trail. Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area, spanning 85,000 acres of desert beauty, provides both highway-legal vehicles and a list of open recreational areas for off-roaders to explore. Different destinations include: Blowsand Hill, Devil’s Slide, Barrel Springs, Shell Reef, Gas Domes, and even a Pumpkin Patch where visitors can see how pumpkin-size desert “pearls” emerge from wind and water eroding on the globular sandstone surface to produce this wonder.
- Capture the picturesque view at Fonts Point, said to be one of the best sights in Southern California. It is made up of dipped canyons, desert terrain, boulder rocks, and stretches out to the Salton Sea. Fonts Point can be accessed by hiking or from a drive through the desert and then a short hike up to the viewing grounds. When visited at sunrise or sunset, guests are in for an incredible sight that will be remembered for a long time.
