Opened in 1907 at a then steep cost of over $200,000, the Mizpah Hotel was heralded as “the finest stone hotel on the desert” by local newspapers. Located in the old mining town of Tonopah, halfway between Las Vegas and Reno, this region experienced a silver and gold boom in the early 1900s, amplifying the need for a place where hardworking miners could rest. The Mizpah Hotel spared no expense, acquiring electric lights, steam heat, crafted ceiling fans, and a bar stocked with the best whiskey. In 2011, current owners Fred and Nancy Cline carefully preserved and restored its 1907 Victorian style and history, while updating the hotel to add modern comforts and amenities. The Mizpah Hotel is truly an unexpected treasure in the Nevada desert.
